Summer Solstice Craft Challenge 2011 Another Submission!

Summer...thoughts of beaches, blue oceans and the green hills of Hawaii inspired our next teammates submission! Maika`i Pomaika`i Hawaiian Voyage Necklace ~ by Howling Caterpillars.   As the Summer Solstice is about fertility and abundance so is the Polynesian (Hawaiian) God Lono.  Here's her wonderful piece and what she shares about this Hawaiian God.

Lono is a God closely associated with with Fertility, Agriculture, Rainfall, and Music. All things that I think of when I think of a New England Summer. He allegedly came down on a Rainbow to marry the Goddess of Forest Growth, Laka. He is one of Four Gods who existed before the World was created. He is also known as a God of Peace. During his festival there was to be no war or extra work. It was basically forbidden.  He left Hawaii, and promised to return in a floating island. The Hawaiians believed that Captain James Cook was Lono returned.

You can read more about her inspiration and the shells as well as beads used in this wonderful and magikal piece of art here.  She also shares much lore and meaning of the shells used.  Enjoy!

Summer Solstice Craft Challenge 2011...continues

Here we have Kate from Fallwake another member of my Metaphysical Etsy Team and another wonderful submission to our Metaphysical Team Challenge!  White Moon Witchcraft is a Canadian shop and currently the Canada Post is on strike, so she had to put her shop on vacation mode.  So there isn't a direct link available for this piece yet.
A gorgeous amulet, eye of Horus!  This is what Kate shared...

The Eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol used most commonly for protection and wisdom. Horus, often affiliated with Ra, is the god of the sun. The God of the Sun is inspirational and protective. This amulet is meant to be hung in the home or on your door for these purposes as well as for good luck in general. The eye is made of Tiger's Eye gemstones, which are known for drawing the ability to "see" and think clearly. The ancient Egyptians used Tiger's eye stones as the eyes in some of their god-image statues to symbolize divine vision. Some of the beads are also Tiger's Eye stones, and hanging on the bottom are 3 rustic hand made ankh symbols, Egyptian signs of eternal life. Hang this talisman anywhere to draw in the positive, uplifting, vital sun powers of Horus and Ra. This talisman measures 9 and 1/4" ( nine and one quarter inches) from the top of the hanging chain to the lowermost bead. The price on this guy is $25.00. Look for it when my shop opens back up!

 More awesome art to come!

Summer Solstice 2011 Craft Challenge Continues...

As you all know I'm continuing to feature my teammates and their art for the challenge. Next up we have Kate from Fallawake she created this wonderful and magickal Green Man unisex necklace.

A man's face among leaves, the Green Man is a popular garden decoration and as Kate shares "One of the oldest symbols in mythology, the Green Man (also known as the Old Man of the Woods, Jack in the Green, Tree Beard, Oak King, or Green George, among others) is associated with Robin Hood, The Green Knight, Pan, Dionysus, Cernunnos, Puck, Horned God Herne, and many other free-spirited men of the forest."

You can read more about her piece of art and her inspiration on her Etsy Listing.

I'll share more as they are completed so be prepared for some more wonderful and Magickal art pieces to come!

Summer Solstice 2011 Craft Challenge

The shops in both our Metaphysical Etsy Team and Metaphysical Artfire Guild  have gathered together to do a Summer Solstice challenge.  What does that mean...well, we are each creating a summer themed product and sharing it in our shops and everywhere else!  We also are going to creating a treasury around the theme of our product.  What's a treasury?  It's a handpicked collection of art from our teammates, which in this case will be supporting our summer theme for our new creation!

I would like to introduce you to our first artist ... Magikal Kabinets by Kalypso Krystal she created this beautiful and magickal Apollo themed Cabinet!  Look at how sweet this is with all it's wonderful detail.

You can read about her inspiration for this wonderful piece here "Summertime Inspiration" and you can check out the treasury she curated around her theme "Here Comes the Sun and Butterflies".

So...what will I make...this is my inspiration...

A collection of Pearls, Citrine, Peridot and some yellow Turquoise.  What came to mine was a Forest Faerie inspired Circlet...more to come...off to create!

Enjoy this Summer Solstice Craft Challenge, there's more to come.  I will continue to share each artist's piece of art as it's completed and will keep you posted on the progress of my own too.  What a wonderful way to kick off a Magickal and inspiring Midsummer!
